Udyam registration verification takes about a minute on the official portal, for your own business or a supplier's, and needs only the Udyam number and an on-screen code.
It is free, needs no login, and shows the business's MSME category for each year.
Udyam certificate verification: key takeaways
- Verify only on udyamregistration.gov.in, under Print/Verify, then "Verify Udyam Registration". Sites that charge a fee or ask for an "application ID" are private.
- A Udyam number is 19 characters with hyphens, in the format UDYAM-XX-00-0000000. Only nine of them are digits, so a purely numeric "16-digit" number is not a Udyam number.
- There is no "pending" or "approved" status. The number is issued when the owner submits the form, so a number that verifies is a registered enterprise.
- No public search exists by PAN, mobile, Aadhaar or business name. Ask the supplier for the number, or the owner can recover it with an OTP.
- Buyers should check the category for each invoice year and the registration date. The 45-day payment rule covers only micro and small suppliers, and only supplies made after that date.
Find your situation below:
| Your situation | What to do |
|---|---|
| You want to check your own registration | Verify your number on the portal; log in to update anything wrong |
| A supplier sent you a Udyam certificate | Verify the number yourself and match it to their invoice and PAN |
| The number starts UDYAM-I | It is a Udyam Assist number; verify it on udyamassist.gov.in instead |
| You have an old Udyog Aadhaar (UAM) number | It lapsed after 30 June 2022; the holder must register on Udyam |
| You lost your own Udyam number | Use "Forgot Udyam/UAM Number" with an OTP to your registered mobile or email |
| The certificate looks edited or fake | Scan its QR code and re-verify the number; trust the portal, not the PDF |
How Do You Verify a Udyam Registration Number Online?
You verify a Udyam registration number on the official Udyam portal by opening Print/Verify, choosing "Verify Udyam Registration", entering the number and the verification code, and clicking Verify. It is free, and the details appear on the same screen.
Keep the number ready in the exact format UDYAM-XX-00-0000000, where XX is the state code. Then follow these steps:
- Open udyamregistration.gov.in. Check the address bar; lookalike sites copy the design.
- Hover over or tap Print/Verify in the top menu.
- Choose Verify Udyam Registration. Other items in that menu, such as "Print Udyam Certificate", need the owner's login.
- Type the number into the "Udyam Registration Number" box, with the hyphens, exactly as it appears on the certificate.
- Type the characters from the image into "Verification Code". The code is case sensitive.
- Click Verify. The enterprise's registered details appear below the form.
There is no OTP at this step, because anyone may verify any number. The OTP is only for the owner's own login, and owners who have not yet registered can register free on the same portal.
If the verify page does not work
| What you see | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Invalid verification code | Wrong case, or the image refreshed | Reload the image and type it again carefully |
| Page opens blank or "not found" | The verify link was opened directly or the session expired | Start from the portal home page, then use the menu |
| Number rejected before checking | Missing hyphens, spaces, or a UAM or UDYAM-I number | Retype in the UDYAM-XX-00-0000000 format, or use the right portal |
| No record found | Typo, a lookalike-site number, or a cancelled registration | Retype the number; if it still fails, ask for a fresh certificate printed from the portal |
What Does the Udyam Registration Verification Result Show?
The Udyam registration verification result shows the details the enterprise filed. These include its name, organisation type, main activity, MSME category for each classification year, address, NIC codes, District Industries Centre and the date of Udyam registration.
Mobile and email appear masked.
Here is what each part means and what to check. The labels can vary slightly on the live screen:
| Field | What it tells you | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Name of enterprise | The registered business or trade name | Matches the invoice and the bank account name |
| Type of organisation | Proprietary, partnership, company, LLP and so on | Matches the PAN you have on file |
| Major activity | Manufacturing or Services | Traders register under Services with a trading NIC code |
| Enterprise type, by classification year | Micro, small or medium for each year, with the date it was set | Use the row for the year of the invoice; it can change after each year's ITR and GST update |
| Social category and gender | Details of the owner | Relevant only for SC/ST or women-owned schemes |
| Dates of incorporation and commencement | When the business was set up and started | Not later than invoices you have from them |
| Units and official address | Where the enterprise operates | Matches the supply address on documents |
| NIC codes | The activities registered, at 2, 4 and 5-digit level | Covers what they actually sell you |
| DIC and MSME-DFO | The district and Ministry offices for the enterprise | Useful if you need to raise a query |
| Date of Udyam registration | When the enterprise registered | Earlier than the invoices you want protected |
Two fields matter most to a buyer. The enterprise type row for an invoice's year shows if the supplier was micro, small or medium then.
The NIC codes show if it is a trader, which changes the benefits it can claim.
Save a screenshot or PDF of the result with the date you checked. It is your record if a payment dispute or an audit question comes up later.
To read the same fields on the certificate itself, see what each line of the MSME certificate shows.
What Does Udyam Registration Status Mean?
Udyam registration status has only two real states: registered, which means the number exists and verifies, or not registered.
There is no pending, approved or rejected stage, because the portal issues the Udyam Registration Number the moment the owner submits the form.
Many guides list status labels the portal never shows. They come from private sites that sell registration and run their own "track application" pages. This is how the official process actually works:
| Stage | What happens | How long |
|---|---|---|
| Form submitted with final OTP | The Udyam Registration Number appears on screen | Immediately |
| Certificate issued | The e-certificate becomes available under Print/Verify | Generally 2 to 3 days, per the Ministry's Champions FAQ |
| After each year's ITR and GST data | The category is updated from that data | New row in the enterprise type table |
| Details not updated when required | Suspension of the registration under the rules | The enterprise becomes liable for suspension |
| Owner cancels, or an officer cancels after an enquiry | The registration ends | From the cancellation date |
So a Udyam status check is really a check of the number: if you hold it and it verifies, the registration exists. If you never saw a number on screen, there is no Udyam application status to track.
Work through these checks instead:
- Recover it first. The number may have appeared and been missed. Try the Forgot Udyam/UAM Number option with the mobile or email you used.
- Read any error you got. A message that the PAN or Aadhaar is already registered means a number exists, so recover it rather than register again.
- Register again only if nothing comes back. Start a fresh application on the portal and note the number the moment it appears.
How to do an MSME status check on your own registration
An owner can see more of their MSME registration status than the public verify page shows. Log in with "Update/Cancel Udyam Registration", using the Udyam number, the registered mobile, an OTP and the on-screen code.
You can then review every field, correct what is wrong and print a fresh certificate. The guide to updating or cancelling a Udyam registration covers each change.
To print your certificate (the Udyam certificate download guide has more detail):
- Open Print/Verify, then Print Udyam Certificate.
- Enter your Udyam number and the mobile number given in the form.
- Choose an OTP on mobile or email, then click "Validate & Generate OTP".
- Enter the OTP and the verification code, then download or print the PDF.
Is the certificate not ready after 3 working days? Call or WhatsApp the MSME Champions helpline on +91 8308809334, Monday to Friday, 10 am to 6 pm, or email champions@gov.in with your Udyam number.
Which Udyam Number Do You Have, and Where Do You Verify It?
There are three number formats, and each is checked on a different page. Most "not found" errors come from using the wrong one.
| Number | Format | Where to verify | What it means today |
|---|---|---|---|
| Udyam Registration Number | UDYAM-XX-00-0000000 (19 characters) | udyamregistration.gov.in, Verify Udyam Registration | A current MSME registration |
| Udyam Assist number | UDYAM-I-XX-00-0000000 | udyamassist.gov.in, Verification of URN | An informal micro unit, used mainly for priority sector loans |
| Udyog Aadhaar (UAM) | 12 characters, such as DL05A0000001 | The portal's "Verify Udyog Aadhaar" page | A past filing only; UAMs lapsed after 30 June 2022 |
To verify a UDYAM-I number, open udyamassist.gov.in and choose the option to verify a Udyam Registration Number. Type the rest of the number after the fixed "UDYAM-I-" prefix, enter the captcha and click Verify.
A valid number opens the Udyam Assist Certificate details.
The Udyam Assist Platform registers informal micro units through a bank, NBFC or microfinance lender. Its number carries an "I" after UDYAM, and its page asks for the 17 characters without hyphens.
A UDYAM-I certificate is meant for priority sector lending, so ask a supplier with one for a regular Udyam number before you treat it as a protected MSE.
An old UAM that still verifies proves only that the business filed before July 2020. It is not current MSME status. Ask the supplier to register on Udyam, using "UAM Migration to Udyam" on the portal.
Can You Check Udyam Registration by PAN, Mobile or Aadhaar?
No. The official portal has no public search by PAN, mobile number, Aadhaar, GSTIN or business name, so you need the Udyam number.
Guides that describe a Udyam registration check by PAN usually mean the owner's own login, which still needs the Udyam number.
Here is what each person can actually do:
- The owner who lost the number: recover it under Forgot Udyam/UAM Number with an OTP to the mobile or email given in the application. It cannot be used to look up someone else.
- The owner with DigiLocker: the certificate can be pulled into DigiLocker. A Ministry circular of 1 January 2025 asks banks and states to treat that copy at par with the original.
- A buyer: ask the supplier for the number in writing, then verify it yourself. Never accept "we are MSME" without a number.
- Anyone with the PDF: scan the dynamic QR code. The portal says it opens the enterprise's details on the official site.
You do not need any login to verify. The only login on the portal is the owner's update login.
How Do You Spot a Fake or Altered Udyam Certificate?
Udyam registration verification is also how you spot a fake certificate: verify its number on the portal and compare the result with the PDF. If the portal shows a different name, category or date, or no record at all, trust the portal and treat the PDF as unreliable.
Use this MSME certificate check on any certificate a supplier sends:
- Verify the number on udyamregistration.gov.in yourself. Do not use a link the supplier sent.
- Scan the QR code. It should open a page on the official portal with matching details. If it opens any other website, stop.
- Compare the name and PAN type with the invoice and your vendor record.
- Check the row for the invoice year. An older certificate can show only an earlier year's category.
- Look at the date of Udyam registration against the invoices the supplier wants covered.
Lookalike sites are the main source of confusion. One that ranks on Google issues its own "application ID" and shows an "Approved" status. Its own footer says it is a private consultancy, not authorised by any government department.
The portal lists its official addresses: udyamregistration.gov.in, udyam.gov.in, msmeregistration.gov.in and the udyamregistration .com, .in, .co.in, .biz, .org and .info domains.
What to do if a supplier's certificate does not match
Treat the supplier as not registered until the portal says otherwise, and keep a record of what you found.
- Pause MSME treatment. Do not apply the 45-day rule or list the supplier in MSME Form 1 on the strength of the PDF alone.
- Save the evidence. Keep the PDF you received and a dated screenshot of the portal result.
- Ask in writing. Request a certificate printed from the portal, or a reply that they are not registered.
- Update your records. Change the vendor master only once the number verifies with matching details.
If you were charged by a lookalike site or misled about a supplier's status, complain through MSME Champions, the Ministry's grievance portal.
Verifying a Supplier's MSME Status: A Checklist for Finance Teams
Finance teams run Udyam registration verification on every supplier because MSME status decides when the bill must be paid and what the company must report. It also decides when the expense can be claimed for tax.
Getting it wrong means interest, a wrong return or a delayed deduction.
Follow these steps for each supplier:
- Get the Udyam number in writing.
- Run Udyam registration verification on the official portal.
- Note the category for each invoice year and the NIC codes.
- Compare the registration date with your supply dates.
- Save the result with the date you checked.
- Set the payment term at 45 days or less.
Three rules depend on the result of this MSME registration check:
- 45-day payment rule: under the MSMED Act, micro and small suppliers must be paid within the agreed term, up to 45 days (15 if none is agreed). Late payment carries compound interest at 17.25% a year.
- MSME Form 1: companies that owe micro or small suppliers for over 45 days file it twice a year. The April to September 2026 return is due on 31 October 2026. See how a company files it.
- Tax deduction timing: a buyer deducts a payment to a micro or small supplier in the purchase year only if it pays on time. This rule, earlier section 43B(h), is now section 37(2)(g) of the Income-tax Act, 2025.
These rules do not cover every supplier. Medium firms are outside the 45-day rule. So are traders, whose Udyam benefits are limited to priority sector lending.
Supplies made before the supplier registered are not covered either, as the Supreme Court held in Silpi Industries (2021). For the trader case in detail, see what Udyam registration gives traders.
What to record in the supplier master
| Record | Where it comes from | Why you need it |
|---|---|---|
| Udyam Registration Number | The supplier, then the verify result | The key for every later check |
| Category for each invoice year | Enterprise type rows | Micro and small trigger the 45-day rule |
| Major activity and NIC codes | Verify result | A trading code means no 45-day protection |
| Date of Udyam registration | Verify result | Only later supplies are covered |
| Agreed payment term | Contract or purchase order | Must be 45 days or less to apply |
| Date checked, with a saved result | Your screenshot or PDF | Evidence for audit and Form 1 |
Re-check every supplier each April and before you file each half-yearly Form 1. A supplier that grows from small to medium keeps its non-tax benefits for three years, so check the classification date and take advice before you drop it from Form 1.
The same check matters when you onboard suppliers on TReDS or evaluate MSE bids on GeM, where benefits depend on the current category.
Paid verification APIs from private firms read the same public record. They are worth paying for only when you onboard hundreds of vendors and want the check built into your system.
For a handful of suppliers, the free page is enough.
Exporters face the same check from the other side. Banks and overseas clients ask for your own Udyam certificate, and a FIRA proves each foreign payment.
Businesses in India that export goods or services can apply for Xflow, subject to its terms, and every international transaction gets an eFIRA within 24 hours.
Email template: asking a supplier for their Udyam details
Copy and adjust this message for vendor onboarding:
Subject: Udyam registration details for our vendor records
Dear [Supplier name], as part of our vendor onboarding, please share your Udyam Registration Number (format UDYAM-XX-00-0000000) and a copy of your Udyam certificate. We will verify it on udyamregistration.gov.in.
If you are not registered under Udyam, please confirm this in writing. Regards, [Name, Company]
No Record Found or Wrong Details: What to Do
If Udyam registration verification returns no record for a number, first retype it in the exact format and make sure you are on the right portal.
If it still fails, the number may be mistyped on the certificate, issued by a lookalike site, a UAM or UDYAM-I number, or cancelled.
| Problem | Who acts | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Supplier's number shows no record | The buyer | Ask the supplier to verify it themselves and send a fresh certificate printed from the portal |
| Your own number shows no record | The owner | Recover it with an OTP; if no number comes back, the registration never completed |
| Name, address or activity is wrong | The owner | Log in with "Update/Cancel Udyam Registration", correct it and submit with the final OTP |
| Category looks wrong for this year | The owner | Check that last year's ITR and GST returns are filed; the category comes from them |
| You paid an agent and the number fails | The owner | Register yourself on the official portal and complain through MSME Champions |
| Nothing works | Either | Call the MSME Champions helpline, or ask your District Industries Centre |
A supplier who cannot produce a number that verifies should be treated as not registered for MSME purposes until they can. New businesses can register for Udyam free in one sitting.
Frequently asked questions
No. The Udyam number is permanent and the certificate has no expiry date, so there is nothing to renew. What the owner must do is keep the details current.
- Every year: your ITR and GST data update your category on their own. File both on time, or the category can go wrong.
- When something changes: update the address, bank account, units or activities yourself through "Update/Cancel Udyam Registration".
- After any update: print a fresh certificate before you send it to buyers or banks, so the PDF matches the portal.
An enterprise that does not update its details when required becomes liable for suspension of its MSME status.
Enter the number on the portal's "Verify Udyam Registration" page with the verification code, then read the enterprise type table in the result. It has one row per classification year.
Pick the row for the year you care about. For an invoice dated August 2026, use the 2026-27 row, not an older one. Then read it like this:
- Micro or small: the 45-day payment rule and MSME Form 1 apply to that supply.
- Medium: the business is an MSME, but the 45-day rule does not apply.
- Any category with a trading NIC code (45, 46 or 47): the benefits are limited to priority sector lending.
Not someone else's. The portal has no search by mobile number, and any site that offers one is private, so do not share your details there. A buyer should ask the supplier for the Udyam number instead.
An owner who lost their own number can recover it with the mobile given in the form:
- Open Print/Verify, then "Forgot Udyam/UAM Number".
- Pick mobile or email as the OTP option, choosing the Udyam number type if the page asks.
- Enter the mobile or email you gave in the application, plus the verification code.
- Enter the OTP to get your number back.
If you no longer have that phone, try the email option. If neither works, call the MSME Champions helpline.
Check at onboarding, then at four fixed points. A category or registration can change during the year, and an old check will not show it.
| When | Why |
|---|---|
| Once the new year's category row appears | The category is updated from the latest ITR and GST data |
| Before 31 October and 30 April | MSME Form 1 lists dues to micro and small suppliers |
| When the supplier changes its name, PAN or legal form | A new PAN needs a new Udyam registration |
| Before you pay a disputed or late bill | The interest claim depends on the category on the supply date |
A simple habit works: set two reminders in your vendor master, one in May and one in October, and save each result with the date.
Anyone who has your Udyam number can see your registered business details, without a login. That is by design, so buyers and banks can check you.
| Visible to anyone with the number | Not shown in full |
|---|---|
| Business name, organisation type and address | Mobile number and email, which appear masked |
| Category by year, activity and NIC codes | Your PAN, Aadhaar and bank account |
| Dates of incorporation, commencement and registration | Investment and turnover figures |
Share your number with buyers and lenders, but do not share the OTP that comes to your phone. Nobody needs it to verify you.
Yes, as proof of registration. The Udyam portal and DigiLocker are linked, and a Ministry circular of 1 January 2025 asks ministries, banks and states to treat the DigiLocker copy at par with the physical certificate.
The copy shows the data as it stood when it was fetched. If the owner updates the registration later, the DigiLocker copy can be out of date.
So use it as the document, but still verify the number on the portal before you rely on the category.
