MSME Udyam Registration in 2026: How to Register, Log In, Update and Cancel

Exporting as a Udyam-registered MSME?

Get paid by clients abroad at the mid-market rate, with an eFIRA on every withdrawal.

MSME Udyam registration is free on udyamregistration.gov.in with an Aadhaar OTP and your PAN, and nothing is uploaded. Once you have a Udyam number, one login lets you print, update or cancel the registration.

MSME Udyam registration certificate: key takeaways

  • Sign-up is free on udyamregistration.gov.in. The portal also lists a few official alternate addresses that lead to it, and says no private agency is authorised to register you.
  • Old Udyog Aadhaar (UAM) and EM-II registrations stopped being valid after 30 June 2022. UAM holders migrate with their old UAM number; EM-II holders register afresh.
  • One login covers everything after registration: your 19-character Udyam number, the mobile you filed, a verification code and an OTP.
  • You get your Udyam number the moment you submit. The e-certificate is issued online, generally within 2 to 3 days when your PAN and GST data check out.
  • Confirm your ITR and GST details on the portal each year, or your MSME status can be suspended.

What Is MSME Udyam Registration?

MSME Udyam registration is the government's online registration for micro, small and medium enterprises, in place since 1 July 2020. It gives a permanent Udyam number and an e-certificate, and replaced Udyog Aadhaar.

The name has changed several times, which is why people still search for Udyog Aadhaar:

PeriodSystemHow it worked
2006 to 2015EM-I and EM-IIFiled at the District Industries Centre
September 2015 to June 2020Udyog Aadhaar (UAM)Self-declared online
From 1 July 2020Udyam registrationOnline with Aadhaar, linked to PAN and GST data
From 1 April 2021PAN and GSTIN requiredGSTIN only where GST law applies
30 June 2022Old EM-II and UAM endAfter three extensions

Who Can Register, and What Do You Need?

A business can register if it stays within the medium limits of ₹125 crore invested in plant and equipment and ₹500 crore turnover, with exports left out.

Since 1 April 2025, micro means up to ₹2.5 crore and ₹10 crore, and small up to ₹25 crore and ₹100 crore.

Many sites still show the 2020 limits (micro ₹1 crore and ₹5 crore). Those no longer apply.

A few rules decide whether you fit:

  • Excluded work: crop farming (NIC 01, except listed allied work such as poultry, bee-keeping and cotton ginning), forestry (02), fishing (03) and household activities (97, 98, 99) cannot register.
  • Traders: retail and wholesale traders can register, but only for priority sector lending.
  • Investment: counted at written down value, leaving out land, buildings and furniture.
  • New business: with no ITR yet, you self-declare the figures until the year you file your first return.

Getting paid from abroad: keep proof of every foreign payment. With Xflow, you can download an eFIRA (electronic Foreign Inward Remittance Advice) within 24 hours of every withdrawal, at no extra cost.

You need these details, not documents:

  • Aadhaar of the owner, managing partner, karta or a company's authorised signatory, with the phone linked
  • The business PAN, and a GSTIN if GST law requires one
  • Bank account number and IFSC
  • Address, start date, staff count and NIC activity codes

How to Do a New Udyam Registration Online

For a new Udyam registration online, open the official Udyam Registration portal and click "New Registration" under "For New Entrepreneurs who are not Registered yet as Micro, Small & Medium".

The form has six tabs and ends with a final OTP.

  • Aadhaar Verification: enter the Aadhaar number and the name exactly as on Aadhaar. Tick the consent box, then click "Validate & Generate OTP" and enter the OTP sent to the Aadhaar-linked phone.
  • PAN Verification: choose the Type of Organisation, enter the business PAN and click "PAN Validate". The portal then asks whether you filed last year's ITR.
  • Check the fetched figures: for a PAN with returns, the portal pulls investment at written down value and turnover, with export turnover shown apart. Read them before moving on.
  • Basic Details: mobile, email, social category, gender, whether specially abled, and the enterprise name. This mobile and email become your login for years, so use ones you will keep.
  • Official Address: the main office address. The portal assigns your District Industries Centre (DIC) from the district.
  • Plant/Unit Details: add every unit or branch. Each one needs its own address.
  • Other Details: any previous EM-II or UAM number, start dates and bank details (name, IFS code, account number). Then the major activity (Manufacturing or Services; traders pick Services and a trading NIC code), NIC codes and staff by gender.
  • Submit: tick the declaration and click "Submit & Get Final OTP". Enter the OTP to finish.

For NIC codes, pick the 2, 4 and 5-digit codes from the drop-downs, or use "Search NIC Code in Lesser Steps" and type a word such as "software". Click "Add Activity" for each line of work.

The opt-ins for GeM, TReDS, NCS, NSIC B2B and Skill India are optional. If a box confuses you, check what each field expects before you submit.

What you see: your Udyam Registration Number appears on submission. The form itself takes one sitting; the e-certificate is issued online, generally within 2 to 3 days when PAN and GST details are used.

The Udyam registration form has no upload fields at all.

The certificate shows your number, business name, category by year, activity, address, dates and NIC codes, with a QR code. Check that each field on the certificate matches your records before you share it.

Share the plain print; the "Print with Annexure" copy also shows your PAN and bank details.

Before you start, make sure you are on the official site:

  • Start from udyamregistration.gov.in, and check the footer names the Ministry of MSME.
  • No step asks you to pay. Any fee means a private site.
  • OTPs are typed into the portal yourself. Never share one with an agent or a caller.

The Udyam registration process is a self-declaration. Your money figures come from your tax and GST returns once the PAN checks out.

What to Do if the Udyam Form Stops

Most Udyam registration problems come from a detail that does not match an official record, or a box left unticked. Find your message below.

If the form still will not go through, contact the MSME Champions helpline: champions@gov.in, or call or WhatsApp +91 8308809334, Monday to Friday, 10 am to 6 pm. Your District Industries Centre can also help you complete it.

How to Move From Udyog Aadhaar or EM-II to Udyam

UAM to Udyam migration uses the portal option "For those already having registration as Udyog Aadhar Memorandum". You enter your old Udyog Aadhaar number and receive an OTP on the mobile or email filled in that UAM.

  • Click "UAM Migration to Udyam" on the home page.
  • Enter your 12-character Udyog Aadhaar number.
  • Choose OTP on the mobile or the email given in your UAM.
  • Click "Validate & Generate OTP" and enter the OTP.
  • Fill in the Udyam form with your PAN and current details, tab by tab, as in the new registration steps above, and submit with the final OTP.

The catch: the OTP goes to the phone or email in your old UAM, not your Aadhaar phone. If you no longer have it, ask your District Industries Centre or the MSME Champions helpline for help.

If an agency or office filed your UAM for you, use the separate "Assisted UAM Migration" screen. It works the same way: UAM number, then an OTP to the mobile or email in that UAM.

There is no button for EM-II, so EM-II holders use New Registration. Type the old EM-II number in the "previous EM-II/UAM" field under Other Details so the history stays linked.

Udyam Registration Login: What Can You Do After Logging In?

The Udyam registration login needs four things: your 19-character Udyam number, the mobile in your application, an on-screen code, and an OTP sent to that mobile or your email.

  • Open "Update/Cancel Udyam Registration", "Print Udyam Certificate" or "Udyami Login". They all lead to the same login page.
  • Enter your Udyam number in the form UDYAM-XX-00-0000000.
  • Enter the mobile you gave in the application and choose OTP on mobile or email.
  • Type the case-sensitive verification code and click "Validate & Generate OTP".
  • Enter the OTP and click "Validate OTP & Login".

Once logged in, you can print the certificate, update your registration, or cancel it. There is no password; every login uses a fresh OTP.

If the registered mobile is no longer yours, choose OTP on email instead. If you have lost both, there is no self-service fix, so write to champions@gov.in with your Udyam number or ask your District Industries Centre.

How to download your Udyam certificate

You download the certificate from Print / Verify, then "Print Udyam Certificate", using the same login.

  • Log in with your Udyam number, registered mobile, the code and the OTP.
  • Choose "Print" for the plain certificate, or "Print with Annexure" for the full copy.
  • Save it as a PDF from your browser's print window.

Send buyers and lenders the plain print. Keep the annexure copy private, because it shows your PAN and bank details. If a lost number or a missing OTP stops you here, work through the download fixes one by one.

How Do You Update Your Udyam Registration?

You update your Udyam registration by logging in through "Update/Cancel Udyam Registration", editing the form and submitting it with a fresh OTP. Do it whenever your details change, and each year after filing your ITR.

  • Click Login, then "Update/Cancel Udyam Registration", and log in as above.
  • Open the update screen, which shows your saved form. Edit only the fields that changed; your PAN and Aadhaar stay locked.
  • Go to the tab you need and make the change.
  • Tick the declaration, submit and enter the OTP.
  • Print a fresh copy of the certificate.
What I want to changeWhere on the formNote
Office addressOfficial AddressYour DIC may change with the district
A new branch or factoryPlant/Unit DetailsAdd it to the same registration
A new line of workOther Details, NIC codesUse "Add Activity"
A new GSTINPAN VerificationAll GSTINs under the PAN count together
Bank accountOther DetailsEnter the new IFS code and account number
Mobile or emailBasic DetailsYour next login uses the new one

What you cannot change: the PAN. A new legal entity, such as a sole owner's business that becomes a company, has a new PAN and needs its own registration.

The yearly step matters most. The rules make you confirm last year's ITR and GST details on the portal, and failing to update can lead to suspension of your MSME status and its benefits.

How to Do a Udyam Registration Check or See Your Status

For a Udyam registration check, use "Verify Udyam Registration" on the portal: enter the 19-character number and the case-sensitive verification code, then click Verify. There is no login or OTP, so anyone can check a number.

The result shows the enterprise name, organisation type, major activity, enterprise type (micro, small or medium), dates, unit locations, NIC codes and DIC. A buyer can compare these with your invoice and certificate.

There is no Udyam registration status page to track. Your number appears on submission, and the e-certificate is issued online, generally within 2 to 3 days when PAN and GST data are used.

  • Lost your number: use "Forgot Udyam/UAM Number", choose Udyam or Udyog Aadhaar, and enter the mobile or email you filed. After the OTP, the portal shows every number linked to it.
  • Old UAM: check it with "Verify Udyog Aadhaar" using the 12-character number.
  • A buyer doubts your status: send the plain certificate. They can scan its QR code or use Verify Udyam Registration.

How to Cancel or Re-Register Your Udyam Registration

To cancel, you log in through "Update/Cancel Udyam Registration" with your Udyam number and OTP, but the rules do not say how to register again on the same PAN afterwards. So speak to the helpline before you cancel.

Udyam registration cancel steps, as far as the portal shows them:

  • Log in through "Update/Cancel Udyam Registration".
  • Choose the cancel option on the same screen and give the reason, such as closure of the business.
  • Enter the OTP and keep a copy of what you submit.

If you do not see a cancel option after login, do not file a new registration. Write to champions@gov.in with your Udyam number and the reason, and keep the reply.

Check these first, because they rely on your Udyam number:

  • Bank loans tagged as MSME or priority sector lending
  • Pending delayed-payment claims against buyers
  • GeM seller or TReDS accounts linked to the registration
  • Tenders where you claimed an MSME exemption

Common reasons to cancel are closing the business, a duplicate registration, or moving to a new entity with its own PAN. In the last case, the new entity registers fresh with its own PAN.

Udyam re-registration is where people get stuck. A business can hold only one registration, so ask the MSME Champions helpline (champions@gov.in, +91 8308809334) or your District Industries Centre how your case will be handled.

If there is a complaint or a mismatch, the District Industries Centre can hold an enquiry. After notice and a chance to explain, the state industries department can amend your details or recommend cancellation to the MSME Ministry.

Why Keep Your Udyam Registration Current?

Keeping your Udyam registration current keeps the 45-day payment rule, tender perks and loan benefits working.

Under the MSMED Act, buyers in India must pay micro and small firms within the agreed term, up to 45 days, for supplies made after registration.

Micro and small firms also get tender perks, and no collateral on bank loans up to ₹20 lakh sanctioned or renewed from 1 April 2026. Before you apply, learn how lenders read your certificate.

All registered MSMEs count for priority sector lending. The certificate is also one of the two proofs of business a bank needs for a sole proprietor's current account.

Know what Udyam does not do. It is not a trade licence, it gives no GST or income tax exemption, and it is not a loan by itself.

If you export, export sales are left out of turnover, so keep your IEC details current. Keep a FIRA for every foreign payment too.

Xflow works with Indian businesses that export goods or services and gives an eFIRA within 24 hours for every international transaction.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. The portal charges nothing, and no private agency is authorised to do MSME registration.

The MSMED (Amendment) Act, 2026, signed in August 2026 and being brought into force in stages from October 2026, also describes Udyam filing as free and voluntary.

It is the main one. The portal lists udyam.gov.in, msmeregistration.gov.in and the udyamregistration .com, .in, .co.in, .biz, .org and .info addresses as official ones that lead to it. Hyphenated lookalikes that charge a fee are private firms.

Yes, if GST law does not require you to register. That usually means turnover under ₹40 lakh for goods or ₹20 lakh for services, with lower limits in some states. Add the GSTIN later through an update.

It has no expiry and needs no renewal. You only update your ITR and GST details each year so your category stays correct.

Yes, for your records. Use "Print UAM Certificate" under Print / Verify. It no longer counts as a valid MSME registration, so migrate to Udyam.
