How to Update Udyam Registration and Your MSME Certificate Online

Certificate up to date? Get paid from abroad

Receive international payments at the mid-market rate and get an eFIRA within 24 hours.

To update Udyam registration, you sign in to the official Udyam Registration Portal at udyamregistration.gov.in.

Open the Update/Cancel Udyam Registration menu, enter your 19-character Udyam Registration Number (URN) and the mobile number you gave when you applied, then verify a one-time password (OTP) sent to that mobile or your email.

Some details change themselves. Your investment and turnover figures are pulled automatically from your income tax return (ITR) and GST records, so you may not need to enter them by hand. The portal expects a yearly information update.

There is no renewal, and the registration does not expire.

Keep your registered mobile, email, PAN and Aadhaar details to hand before you start, because the portal only sends the login OTP to the contact details on your application.

Some details, such as investment and turnover, come from government records like your ITR and GST returns, so those are usually corrected at the source, not on the portal.

How to update Udyam registration on the official portal, step by step

To update Udyam registration safely, use the official route only.

The portal states that Udyam registration itself is free of cost and that no other private online or offline system, service, agency or person is authorised to handle it, so work through these steps on udyamregistration.gov.in only.

  1. Open udyamregistration.gov.in and choose Update/Cancel Udyam Registration from the top menu.
  2. Enter your Udyam Registration Number in the format UDYAM-XX-00-0000000.
  3. Enter the mobile number as filled in your application.
  4. Under Choose OTP Option, pick OTP on Mobile as filled in application or OTP on Email as filled in application, then type the verification code shown.
  5. Click Validate & Generate OTP, enter the OTP you receive, and click Validate OTP & Login.
  6. Follow the on-screen prompts to change the details the portal lets you edit, then submit your declaration.

Once the change is saved, you can download a fresh copy of your Udyam certificate from the portal. If you have not registered yet, start with our Udyam registration guide instead.

The portal states that registration is free of cost and that no fee is to be paid to anyone. The official address ends in .gov.in, and no other private online or offline system, service, agency or person is authorised to handle your registration. Treat any other site that offers to handle your Udyam details as a look-alike, not the government portal.

## Is a yearly Udyam registration update required, and what if skipped

A yearly information update is expected once you are registered.

The portal pulls your investment and turnover from your ITR and GST data for enterprises that file returns, and lets you self-declare the figures if you have not filed any returns yet.

Keeping this current matters, because a registration that is never updated can put your active MSME status at risk.

This Udyam registration update is not a renewal; the portal states there is no need to renew. When your figures cross a threshold, your category can change to the higher one. The limits below apply from 1 April 2025.

CategoryInvestment up toTurnover up to
Micro2.5 crore10 crore
Small25 crore100 crore
Medium125 crore500 crore

Export turnover has been excluded from the turnover used for classification under the earlier notification; check the notified wording before assuming overseas sales affect your band. If you are checking whether you still qualify, see our note on MSME eligibility.

How to update the business name on your Udyam certificate

Knowing how to update Udyam certificate details when the business name is wrong starts with where the name comes from.

Your enterprise name on the certificate follows your PAN, ROC and GST records, so a Udyam name change usually begins at the source, not on the portal itself.

Update the name with the Income Tax Department, the Registrar of Companies or GST first. Then log in through Update/Cancel Udyam Registration and check whether the edit screen shows the corrected name.

If the name field is locked, that is the portal holding to your official records.

Changing your address, mobile number or email details

Address and contact details are what people most often need to correct when they update Udyam registration. Log in through Update/Cancel Udyam Registration, and the edit screen will show which of these you can change directly.

Where a field is open, edit it and submit your declaration. Where it is locked, it may be tied to records held elsewhere, such as your Aadhaar or GST profile, so you update it at that source first.

A changed mobile number matters most, because the login OTP goes only to the contact details already on your application.

Updating investment, turnover and business activity details

Investment and turnover are not typed in by hand for anyone who files returns.

The portal fetches both figures from your ITR and GST data, so the way to change them is to correct the underlying returns and allow for the portal's next fetch.

Business activities work differently. Any number of activities, whether manufacturing, service or both, may be added within one registration, so you add a new NIC code to your existing record instead of opening a second one.

Your activities appear on the edit screen, where you can add a new one.

Bank, PAN and organisation type changes to check first

Bank details, PAN and organisation type are the changes to approach carefully.

Check the edit screen after you log in to see which of these the portal lets you change; if bank details appear as an open field, edit them and submit your declaration as you would any other.

If your PAN or organisation type has changed, there is no official self-service rule on this, so confirm with the helpline or your MSME-DFO before you edit or re-register.

Where the screen will not accept a correction you are entitled to, the official amendment route is understood to run through your MSME-DFO or the Directorate of Industries, not a private agent.

When a Udyam certificate update online is not enough

Sometimes a Udyam certificate update online is the wrong tool, and you need a different action altogether.

The clearest case is an old registration: anyone still holding a Udyog Aadhaar (UAM) or EM-II record has to re-register on Udyam, because the old registrations are no longer valid.

Our guide on moving from Udyog Aadhaar to Udyam covers that route.

No enterprise may file more than one Udyam registration, so a second business line is added to your existing record, not registered separately.

If you need to close a registration rather than change it, cancellation sits in the same Update/Cancel Udyam Registration menu you use for edits.

Common problems when you update your MSME certificate, and fixes

A few snags come up again and again when you update MSME certificate details, and most have a simple answer.

  • OTP not received: Wait a moment and request it again, and check that the mobile number matches the one on your application exactly, since the portal sends the code only to the contact details it has on file.
  • Mobile number no longer yours: Choose the OTP on Email option instead, because the portal can send the code to the registered email rather than the old number.
  • Aadhaar or PAN mismatch: Make sure the details you enter match your Aadhaar and PAN records, and raise it with the helpline if the login still refuses to go through.
  • GST or ITR data not showing: The portal uses finalised return data from an earlier year, so correct anything wrong at the ITR or GST end and allow for the portal's next fetch rather than expecting an instant change.
  • Forgot your URN: Use the Forgot Udyam/UAM Number option in the portal menu to retrieve your registration number before you try to log in.
  • Category changed after an update: Crossing either the investment or the turnover limit moves you up a category, so check the limits table above if your classification looks wrong.

Important: Do not pay a private agent just to update your registration. Use the official government portal. If you have a problem with corrections or OTP verification, the portal lists the MSME grievance helpline at +91 8308809334, open Monday to Friday, 10 am to 6 pm, by call or WhatsApp, and at champions@gov.in.

## Where Xflow fits for an MSME receiving export payments

Once your Udyam details are current, the registration mostly sits in the background until a lender, buyer or scheme asks for it.

If you export services or goods and receive money from overseas, it helps to keep your records lined up, so your invoices, your Udyam certificate and your bank details all agree.

At Xflow, we handle cross-border payments for Indian exporters who receive money from overseas customers.

We are authorised by the Reserve Bank of India as a cross-border Payment Aggregator (PA-CB), with final authorisation (the fully approved stage, past in-principle) as of February 2026.

We make an electronic FIRA, or eFIRA, available with every withdrawal at no extra cost. It is digital proof of an inward remittance, listing the sender's details, the exchange rate, the rupee equivalent and the purpose code.

Keeping the eFIRA with your Udyam certificate and invoices gives you a clean record for every export payment you take.
