Forgot Udyam registration number? How to recover it online

If you forgot your Udyam registration number, you can recover it for free on the government Udyam Registration Portal.

The forgot Udyam registration number process is simple because the portal sends a one-time password (OTP) to your registered mobile or email. Once you enter the OTP, it shows every registration number tied to that contact.

You do not need to pay anyone or upload any documents for this. You only need access to the phone number or email address from your original application, and a few minutes on the official site at udyamregistration.gov.in.

The same page also returns an old Udyam Aadhaar Memorandum (UAM) number from before the current system.

If the registered mobile or email has changed and the OTP can no longer reach you, there are still a few ways to find the number, covered further down.

How to recover a forgotten Udyam registration number online

Here is the full path to recover a forgotten Udyam registration number online using the portal. Work through the steps in order. The whole process is free and takes a couple of minutes.

StepWhat to do
1Open udyamregistration.gov.in, go to the Print/Verify menu and select "Forgot Udyam/UAM No."
2Choose where you want the OTP: the mobile number or the email filled in your application.
3Enter that mobile or email, then select "Validate & Generate OTP".
4Type the OTP you receive and select "Validate OTP".
5The portal shows every Udyam and UAM number linked to that mobile or email.

The registered mobile must be a 10-digit Indian number starting with 6, 7, 8 or 9, so check it is entered correctly before you ask for the OTP.

Only one site is the real one

The government portal is udyamregistration.gov.in and recovery there is free. Look-alike sites with similar names may charge you a fee for the same service, so do not pay anyone to retrieve your number.

What to do if the registered mobile or email has changed

If the mobile number or email on your registration has changed, the Forgot Udyam/UAM No. page cannot send you an OTP, so the number has to come from another source first.

The portal does not let you look it up by typing your Aadhaar or PAN; recovery always runs through the OTP sent to your registered contact.

  • Check your old certificate email - the certificate is emailed to you when you register, so search your inbox for the message from the portal, as the number is printed at the top.
  • Look through your compliance records - bank loan files, GST records and vendor onboarding forms often carry the number, which the next section covers in more detail.
  • Ask your accountant - a chartered accountant or consultant who filed the registration usually keeps the number and the login details on record.
  • Update the contact details, then recover - the portal lets you update your mobile or email, but the update option asks you to log in with your Udyam number, so this helps only once you have the number back.

If none of these work, contact your district industries centre or the MSME Champions helpline, which can point you to the right office for your case.

Other places your Udyam number is already written down

If the OTP route is closed, the number may already be sitting in your own files. These documents commonly carry it:

Place to checkWhere the number usually sits
Udyam Registration Certificate PDFPrinted at the top of the certificate; search your email and downloads for it.
Bank and loan documentsMSME loan sanction letters and priority-sector forms often record it.
GST filings and invoicesVendor registration forms and some invoices list it next to your GSTIN.
Buyer and TReDS portalsSupplier onboarding profiles store it against your account.
Subsidy and tender filingsAny application that needed MSME proof carries the number.

Download the Udyam certificate once the number is back

Once you have the number, you can download the Udyam certificate itself.

On the Print/Verify menu select Print Udyam Certificate, log in with your Udyam number and the OTP sent to your registered mobile, and the portal generates the PDF. If you only forgot Udyam certificate access but still have the number, go straight to this step.

Keep both a saved copy and a printout, because banks, buyers and tender portals ask for the Udyam Registration Certificate rather than just the number. The full walkthrough is in the guide on how to download the Udyam certificate.

Common errors when the forgot Udyam option fails

If the forgot Udyam option is not working, these are the usual reasons and what to do. Most issues come down to the OTP or the contact details on file.

ProblemWhat to do
OTP does not arriveCheck your network and spam folder, confirm the mobile is 10 digits starting 6 to 9, then request it again.
Wrong mobile or emailThe OTP goes only to the contact in your application; if it has changed, use the methods above instead.
"No record found"Recheck whether you registered under Udyam or the older UAM, and try the other option on the same page.
A site asks for paymentYou are on a look-alike site; recovery on the government portal is free.
Page will not loadTry again later or in a different browser, and clear the cache if the page keeps failing.

Most forgot Udyam number problems come down to one of these fixes.

If the tool still returns nothing after these checks, the district industries centre or the MSME Champions helpline is the next step if you still cannot find your Udyam registration number.
