Steps to validate an IBAN

There are two different validations that can be performed to ensure an UK IBAN is correct.

  • 01
First validation is done using the IBAN's Check Digits using the MOD97 algorithm.
  • 02
Second layer of validation can be carried out on the domestic sort code and account number combination
  • 03
Match the sort code against our Bank and Branch code directory to check if it exists

Found the correct IBAN, What to do next

With a Slovenian IBAN to hand, complete these checks before transferring.

  • 01
Confirm the registered beneficiary name with the Slovenian bank.
  • 02
SEPA transfers need only the IBAN. For inbound non-SEPA payments, pair it with the BIC.
  • 03
Choose between SEPA Credit Transfer and SEPA Instant Credit Transfer. All Slovenian banks adhering to SCT Inst are TIPS-reachable.
  • 04
For consumer P2P, Flik is the popular Slovenian instant payment scheme using a phone number or email, layered on top of BIPS and SCT Inst.
  • 05
Confirm the account holds EUR and send a small test for first-time corporate beneficiaries.

IBAN Rules in Slovenia

  • 01
IBAN is mandatory in Slovenia for every domestic and cross-border payment. Banka Slovenije assigns the bank identifier portion of the IBAN.
  • 02
The 19-character Slovenian IBAN begins with SI, two check digits, a 2-digit bank code, a 3-digit branch or account holder code, an 8-digit account number, and two national check digits.

There is no parallel legacy domestic format in significant use. Slovenia adopted the euro in 2007 and is a full SEPA member. SCT Inst has been active in Slovenia since November 2020 and is mandatory for adhering banks via TIPS since November 2021.
